7x to 8.00 Upgrades

Important: This is an archived page. The last special offer for discounted upgrades from Release 7x to Release 8 expired on 31 December 2007. By tradition, when a new Manifold release is published (every year or so) a limited-time, discounted price offer allows users of the prior release to upgrade to the new product at low cost. Typically, a discounted price of $50 is available for the first 30 to 45 days. After that, for an additional three to four months a discounted price of $150 is available. The least expensive way to keep upgrading a Manifold license to the latest new product release is to take advantage of the initial discount offer. Routine updates providing bug fixes within a release are free to download. This archived page illustrates how the most recent update offer operated for upgrades from Release 7x to Release 8.

Discounted Upgrade to Release 8.00: Until 31 December 2007 licensees holding a valid Manifold System 7x license may trade in their 7x serial number to obtain an equivalent Manifold System 8.00 serial number for a fee of $150 for each Manifold System 7x serial number upgraded. This is available only to 7x licensees who agree to the terms on this page. The $150 fee is for a license only. No DVD is shipped. You can either download Release 8.00 (see instructions below) or for an additional fee you can purchase DVD installation media.

Upgrades are Not Reversible: Upgrades from 7x to 8.00 are not refundable and they are not reversible. Once you trade in a 7x serial number it is revoked and cannot be restored.

Upgrade Support Fees: The $150 special discount upgrade price does not include support or any assistance of any kind in the upgrade process. Assistance for upgrades is available by email for one standard technical support incident token.

License Server Upgrades Excluded: Manifold 7x License Server licensees are excluded from the above offer. License server licensees should contact sales@manifold.net to acquire a special, low-cost upgrade to 8x for their License Server installations.

Academic License Upgrades Excluded: Manifold 7x Academic License holders are excluded from the above offer. Academic licensees should send an email to sales@manifold.net after 15 September 2007 to get a free upgrade of their Academic license to Release 8.00.

How to Order: Visit the Manifold Online Store and order the Upgrade to 8.00 product. Order as many units of this product as you have 7x serial numbers to upgrade. During checkout, the Online Store will prompt you to provide a valid 7x serial number for each upgrade product you have ordered. If you have ordered five upgrade products you will need to provide five 7x serial numbers. This discounted upgrade offer is available only for credit card orders placed via the Online Store. It is not available for telephone orders, email orders or orders paid by purchase order, wire transfer or check. If you have any problems with this process, all questions must be handled by email to sales@manifold.net.

Original 7x Serial Number Required: To order an Upgrade to 8.00 product you must have a valid 7x serial number. To avoid typographical errors, copy the 7x serial number from the original 7x serial number email sent to you by manifold.net when you acquired your 7x license. If you no longer have a 7x serial number you do not qualify for this upgrade offer. A 7x serial number copied from the Help - About dialog in a Manifold installation will not work. You must use the original serial number from the serial number email.

Valid 7x Serial Number Required: You must have a valid, 7x serial number to use. If your serial number has been revoked it will not work. If your serial number has already been traded in on some other upgrade it has been revoked and will not work.

If a Serial Number is Rejected: If the 7x serial number you provide is rejected, check the status of the serial number on the Serial Number Status Page. This is a good idea before ordering an upgrade, to make sure you have a valid serial number that can be used for an upgrade.

If an Error Message Occurs: During peak upgrade ordering periods manifold.net servers may not be able to handle all transactions at once. If an error occurs when placing an upgrade order, please try again later. The order process is fail-safe: if an error occurs the transaction does not happen and you can try again later without any worry of a duplicate order.

The Upgrade Process: When you order an upgrade your order will be processed within three business days. When your upgrade order is processed, your credit card will be charged, the qualifying 7x serial number you provided will be revoked and a new Release 8.00 serial number will be sent to the email address you provided. The new Release 8.00 serial number is a fresh serial number with five new activation keys available.

Email Problems: You must provide an email address that can receive email from manifold.net and speakeasy.net email addresses. If a spam filter or "challenge/response" filter of any kind intercepts your 8.00 serial number email you will not receive your new 8.00 serial number.

Downloading Release 8.00

The 8.00 upgrade is a download. No DVD will be sent to you. Visit the Product Downloads page for links and download instructions. 8.00 download files are very large, from 80 MB to 100 MB in size. If your Internet connection does not allow you to download such large files reliably you will have to purchase the Manifold 8.00 DVD (Media Only) product on the Online Store for $35 and pay to have it shipped to you. You will then be able to install 8.00 from the DVD. The DVD will be available after 15 September 2007.

Limited Downloads: Manifold System 8.00 downloads are limited to the Manifold installation file only. They do not include sample data, bonus applications or other items on the Manifold 8.00 DVD. In particular, the Manifold US Geocoding Database is not downloadable. To get the Manifold US Geocoding Database you must purchase the Manifold 8.00 DVD (Media Only) product. Important: Release 8.00 uses the same US Geocoding Database as Release 7x. If you have a 7x DVD you can use the Manifold US Geocoding Database installation from the 7x DVD with the Geocoding Tools extension in Release 8.00.

Purchasing a DVD

Users desiring installation media on DVD should purchase the Manifold 8.00 DVD (Media Only) product on the Online Store for $35 and pay to have it shipped. You will then be able to install 8.00 from the DVD. The Manifold DVD includes installation files that were the current distribution at the time the DVD was mastered. Given the rapid pace of updates, it is almost certain that updates will be issued in the future so that the installation files on the DVD will become out of date compared to the latest update available by download (updates are not published on DVD). However, having the DVD provides a baseline installation that helps people get started while they make arrangements to download updates. Many users will download Manifold for installation but will also order the DVD, sent by some least-cost shipping method, to have the data files and bonus software installations on hand. The DVD will be available after 15 September 2007. If you order a DVD before 15 September 2007, your order will be processed but the DVD will not ship until it is available. Important: Buying a DVD does not buy you an upgrade - it simply gets you a DVD, which will be useless if you do not also upgrade your license for $150 as set forth above.

Upgrading Extensions

After you have received your new 8.00 serial number you can use it to upgrade your 7x extension serial numbers. If you have 7x Business Tools, 7x Geocoding Tools or 7x Surface Tools serial numbers, you will have to upgrade those serial number to 8.00 serial numbers. Until 31 December 2007 you may do so at no charge on the 7x Extensions Upgrade Page. This page will require you to provide a 7x extension serial number and also your new 8.00 serial number to prove that you are an 8.00 licensee. For each 8.00 serial number you possess, you may upgrade one each of 7x Business Tools, 7x Geocoding Tools and 7x Surface Tools serial numbers. The web page will immediately provide you with a new 8.00 extension serial number. SAVE THIS SERIAL NUMBER. If you lose the new 8.00 extension serial number you will have to buy a new extension at the full price. Note: A Release 8.00 serial number may be used only once to upgrade a specific extension. Because Universal and Ultimate serial numbers already provide authorization for the extensions built-into these licensees, they may not be used to qualify for an upgrade to an extension.

Combined Upgrades

Licensees have asked how they may upgrade a 7x license and also upgrade the edition, for example, beginning with a 7x Professional license and ending up with an 8.00 Enterprise license, or beginning with a 32-bit 7x license and ending up with a 64-bit 8.00 license. This must be accomplished in two steps:

Note that not all product variaions are supported by direct upgrade paths. For example, a Personal license can only be upgraded to Enterprise by first upgrading Personal to Professional and then upgrading Professional to Enterprise. A 32-bit Personal license ending up in a 64-bit Enterprise license would require the addition of an Upgrade to x64 step as well. There is no direct upgrade path from Enterprise to Universal, although such an upgrade can be simulated by acquiring the Option Pack to add three extensions to an Enterprise license.

Limited Offer / Alternatives

The special offer on this page is a limited time offer only for those Manifold 7x licensees who have a valid, qualifying 7x serial number and who read this page and can successfully apply the instructions it contains to effect a successful upgrade transaction on the Online Store and then to successfully download, install and activate the Release 8 license acquired through this offer without support. The limited time discounted upgrade offer on this page is not an entitlement and it is not offered to all Manifold licensees. By way of example and not limitation, it is not offered to those Manifold licensees who do not have sufficient Internet connectivity to take advantage of this offer, who have not heard of it until after it has expired, who are not able for any reason (such as an invalid serial number, busy connections, credit card processing problem or any other reason) to effect an upgrade transaction on the Online Store, or who are not able for any reason to download, install and activate either Release 8 or any extensions.

The sole remedy for any difficulty with any part of this upgrade offer is for the licensee to acquire Release 8 at the regular, undiscounted price together with any extensions, if desired, at the regular, undiscounted prices as well. If for any reason someone does not like this offer or finds it a hassle to utilize this offer, the alternative is to license Release 8 at the regular price.
