Keyboard and Mouse Quick Reference

This topic lists the most frequently used keyboard shortcuts and mouse moves.  Most such actions are the usual, standard Windows actions, such as Ctrl-C to Copy and Ctrl-V to Paste.   As is typical for Windows and Windows applications, many actions are dependent upon the context in which they are used.

Manifold nomenclature in this manual uses a hyphen character - to connect a modifier and a keyboard character, as in Ctrl-C.   That is slightly different than citations in menus where a plus character + is used as in Ctrl+C to indicate the two keys, the Ctrl key and the c character key, must be pressed together.

By convention, to enhance readability characters are presented as upper case, as in Ctrl-C instead of a lower case variation Ctrl-c.   This risks some slight confusion because the intention in such modifier plus single character shortcuts is to use the lower case character.   In a shortcut if the Shift key is intended to be used it is always explicitly cited, as in Shift-Ctrl-S or Ctrl-Shift-S.

Some characters or keys that are easy to misinterpret or difficult to document without visual confusion are spelled out in this list.   Press the actual character, for example in Ctrl-Plus press the Ctrl key simultaneously with the + key on the numeric pad.   Do not attempt to press the Ctrl key while simultaneously pressing the four keys P, l, u and s.    Different keyboards have different arrangements, but in general the use of +, -, /, and * keys means to use those keys that are located on the numeric pad, and not the shifted versions of keys in the main keyboard array.

Menu items will usually list the keyboard shortcut associated with that item.   If the menu item and keyboard shortcut are hidden or disabled, that indicates the item cannot be used in the current context.   For example, unless the focus is on a window such as an Image window there is nothing to style and thus the Style dialog is not enabled.

Tech Tip:  The Home key is particularly useful in tables because it will always move the cursor to the first field and also will scroll the table so that the current cell is in view.   For example, if we use Edit - Find to find a record to scroll to that record we press the Home key to quickly bring it into view.
