ManifoldŽ Release 7.00 Upgrade Instructions ------------------------------------------- Build 428 - 08 June 2006 This downloadable 7.00 upgrade is used for two purposes: 1. To upgrade 6.50 installations to 7.00. 2. To update a previous 7.00 installation (whether installed from the 7.00 DVD or from an earlier 7.00 download) with minor bug fixes and enhancements. All releases are called "7.00" by Manifold. Updates are noted by their build number. The Help - About dialog in Manifold will show the build number currently installed. The production 7.00 release is Build 425. After installing this update the Help - About dialog will show Build 428. If you have previously installed 7.00 you may go straight to Step 3 in the installation instructions below (since you have already upgraded Windows and have installed .NET Framework 2.0). Installation These installation instructions assume the user is upgrading an existing Manifold 6.50 installation, with all upgrades and installation steps performed on that computer as required by the Manifold 6.50 setup instructions on the Manifold 6.50 Multiversion CD. These installation instructions reference Microsoft upgrades that are available for free download from Microsoft's web sites. If you are using a downloaded 7.00 upgrade installation it is your responsibility to locate, download and correctly install the required Microsoft upgrades. The .NET Framework 2.00 upgrade required for all systems and the Installer 3.1 upgrade required for Windows 2000 are provided at no charge on the Manifold 7.00 DVD. If you doubt your ability to locate, download and install these upgrades, order the Manifold 7.00 DVD and install your 7.00 upgrade from the DVD. The Manifold 7.00 upgrade consists of a zip file that contains this readme.txt file and a manifold.msi installation file. Unzip the file into a convenient folder. Administrator Permissions Required You must have Administrator permissions (use the Administrator login) on Windows Server 2003, Windows XP and Windows 2000 to upgrade Windows, to install .NET Framework 2.0, to install Manifold 7.00 and to activate Manifold 7.00. If using XP Home in default configuration any user login with "Computer administrator" rights is OK. Step 1: Upgrade Windows If you are using Windows NT you must upgrade to Windows 2000, Windows XP or Windows 2003 - Manifold 7.00 does not run on Windows NT because Microsoft does not make .NET Framework 2.0 available for Windows NT. In addition to the Setup instructions on the Manifold 6.50 Multiversion CD, the following upgrades are required for Manifold 7.00. Windows 2003 Manifold installation on Windows Server 2003 REQUIRES installation of Microsoft's SP1 service pack for Windows Server 2003. You must install Windows Server 2003 SP1 before installing Manifold. Windows XP Manifold installation on Windows XP REQUIRES installation of Microsoft's SP2 service pack for Windows XP. You must install Windows XP SP2 before installing Manifold. Windows 2000 Manifold installation on Windows 2000 REQUIRES installation of Microsoft's SP4 service pack for Windows 2000. You must install Windows 2000 SP4 before installing Manifold. Windows Installer 3.1 - See the Microsoft website at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/893803. Windows 98 / 98se No additional upgrades required. Windows Me No additional upgrades required. Step 2: Install .NET Framework 2.0 Manifold 7.00 requires the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. For both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of .NET Framework 2.0, see the Microsoft website at http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/updates/default.aspx Step 3: Uninstall Manifold 6.50 / Install Manifold 7.00 You cannot run both 6.50 and 7.00 on the same machine, so you must first uninstall 6.50. Using the Add or Remove Programs applet in your Windows Control Panel, remove Manifold System 6.50. Next, to install 7.00 double-click the manifold.msi that was unzipped from the downloaded zip file. Follow the instructions using a series of installation dialogs very similar to those used for Manifold 6.50 installation.  If 7.00 has already been installed and you are installing this package as an update, please first uninstall the previous 7.00 installation using the Add or Remove Programs applet in your Windows Control Panel. Uninstallation will not delete any additional files, such as a Geocoding Data installation or any extra image server DLL files, that may have been added to the Manifold installation folder. The activation status of the previous 7.00 installation will be respected. There will be no need to activate again. Step 4: Activate If this is a new 7.00 installation and not an update to a previous installation, you must activate the installation. You will need a 7.00 serial number to activate this installation. You cannot activate this installation with a 6.50 serial number. To trade in your 6.50 serial number for a 7.00 serial number, see the instructions on the manifold.net web site at: http://store.manifold.net/online/Download700.aspx The link for getting a 7.00 serial number is buried in the above site to assure that users will read through important information on 7.00 before trading in their 6.50 serial number for a 7.00 serial number. Follow the activation instructions given in the Activation Help page and in the Activation Keys and Serial Numbers help topic.  After installing Manifold as in Step 3 above, this topic may be found in Help. Launch Help by pressing the Windows Start button, then All Programs, Manifold System, Manifold System 7.00 Help. To activate any extensions you will need 7.00 serial numbers for those extensions. Launch Manifold and then use the Help - Activate to activate your extensions using 7.00 extension serial numbers. You can trade in your earlier serial numbers for extensions for 7.00 extension serial numbers at the same web page you used to trade in your main 6.50 serial number for a 7.00 serial number. Step 5: Follow Through Manifold users new to 7.00 should read the "What's New in 7.00" topic in Help. There are many changes from 6.50 and that topic will guide you in the transition. Check the manifold.net Support page every now and then for new updates. Release Notes for Updates ------------------------------------------- Build 425 is the production release of 7.00. Build 425 is installed by 7.00 DVDs and by the manifold7.zip package downloaded before 23 May 2006. Build 426 - 23 May 2006 1. Fixed TIGER/Line importer problem for post-2000 TIGER/Line versions. 2. Fixed typos in Help, added new Tutorial chapter and tutorial topic on KML export to Google Earth. Build 427 - 02 June 2006 1. Fixed rare bug when using UPDATE queries. The bug risked serious corruption of data (that might not be evident at first) or a crash when an UPDATE query was run. 2. Note: Manifold can export areas to KML in addition to points and lines. Help will be updated to incorporate this capability in a future update. Build 428 - 08 June 2006 1. Fixes a problem with the WHERE clause in SQL that can no longer be optimized for some UPDATE queries. 2. Writes areas areas exported to KML / KMZ as semi-transparent. 3. Updates Help to show export of areas to KML.
