	USGS Geodata - The most detailed maps available of the US and possessions, all for free download from USGS high speed servers. Everything is here! It's well organized with terabytes of free maps available. This is the first stop for US users. USGS sets the standard both for high quality maps as well as a high quality, energetic, effective program for getting government GIS maps out to people.
	US Geographic Names Information System - Links to downloadable data sets providing over 2 million official place and feature names for the United States. Includes links to International and other name information systems.
	GeoGratis - Outstanding, free Canadian government maps in a wide array of categories from Natural Resources Canada. GeoGratis is a web and FTP site that distributes geospatial maps and data of Canada. GIS maps are available in scales ranging from 1:250 000 to 1:30 000 000 in a variety of file formats. (Use the latest Service Pack with Manifold to import the "double" precision .e00 file formats on this site). This should be the first stop for all Canadian users. Here's proof positive that North American nations are leading the world in the provision of government GIS data. (English and French versions)
	GLOBE Elevation Data from NOAA - The Global Land One-km Base Elevation (GLOBE) Project. The latest, most modern terrain elevation database for the entire world. Use with 3D View Studio or within Manifold for gridded elevation points.
	US Bureau of the Census - The US Bureau of the Census is becoming one of the finest online providers of data. Drill down into their site to the TIGER pages and further drill down for their Cartographic Boundary Files for a wealth of information. Census now provides free access to TIGER/Line, Zip Code Tabulation Areas (ZCTAs) and other essential data. If using Manifold 4.50, import the Shape files. When using Manifold 5.00, import using .e00 to automatically get projection/datum information.
	Bureau of Transportation Statistics - Great people! Order most CDs for free delivery or download NTAD 99 online for free. Manifold has a free NTAD to Manifold converter on our free stuff page.
	CIESIN - The Center for International Earth Science Information Network at Columbia University. This wonderful organization publishes a huge amount of Census Bureau information. See their Archive of Census Related Products for post-processed extracts from the 1990 STF3A and 1992 TIGER data linked by polygon ID number; U.S. population, housing density and land cover classification data on a 1km2 grid.
	Free World Maps Foundation - Radical advocacy for free maps via the GNU General Public License. Links to FOIA sample letters that may be used to get maps from NIMA.
