Manifold WorldÔ - $55 per volume (one CD)
Thousands
of hours of personnel and
machine time have been invested to produce the Manifold World series of
digital world maps. Manifold World is a 1:1,000,000-scale
digital electronic chart based on the VMAP0 series of digital charts of
the world produced by the United States National Imagery and Mapping Agency
(the successor agency to the US Defense Mapping Agency). VMAP0 is the
enhanced data set that has replaced the Digital Chart of the World in US
military and government usage for detailed thematic maps.
Because VMAP0 was compiled from many different sources, the "tiles" that comprise it in the original military version are not always topographically sensible, nor do they represent map features as civilians do. For example, not all roads are evenly split at national boundaries, nor are lakes and other polygonal area features divided into multiple components where they cross national boundaries. Manifold World has been processed to split all objects at national boundaries and to otherwise provide a high accuracy digital chart of the world.
The first volume of Manifold World includes data for Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Canada (including Alaska and Greenland). The detail at right shows boundaries and oceanic features from the Europe collection, projected into Lambert Conformal Conic projection.
Dataset layers include Boundaries, Seas and Oceans, Population, Transportation, Utilities, Hydrography, Industry, Elevation, and Physiography. Visit the Manifold World page for more information. Manifold World is published in Manifold 4.50 format, using standard Microsoft mdb format for data attributes, to assure the widest possible utilization of this data set, even by legacy Manifold installations.
Digital
Chart of the World Custom CDs - $150 (three CDs)
Until the publication of Manifold World, The Digital Chart of the World (DCW) is by far the most detailed and most comprehensive digital map of the entire world. Including numerous layers, it is the only public domain world mapping data set available for most of the world's countries. This product provides the DCW on custom recordable CDs to save our international clients from the hassle of downloading over a gigabyte of data through the net. DCW is in Manifold 4.50 format (readable by all Manifold editions from 4.50 onward) and is in the public domain.

Published
by the Defense Mapping Agency on four CDs, the Digital Chart of the World covers the
entire world in 1:2,000,000 or 1:1,000,000 scale including over 40 data attributes.
The map objects and data fields in the DCW are used in many popular maps. See
populated places, political data, and the road system for the entire world. Absolutely
incredible! The entire world with dozens of attributes in Aeronautics, Culture,
LandCover, Ocean, Physiology, Political, Populated Places, Rails, Roads, Transportation
and Utilities. manifold.net has republished the DCW in Manifold
4.50 format, using
standard Microsoft mdb format for data attributes, to assure the widest
possible utilization of this data set, even by legacy Manifold installations.
Detail (right): Digital Chart of the World, Asia populated places layer, zoomed out to show South East Asia. Named populated places have been plotted as dots. "Built up areas" have been selected with SQL toolbar and highlighted in bright red.
We have re-arranged the data to fit onto three CDs, with all of the most commonly used data for the entire world on a single CD. Less frequently used data, such as drainage and hypsography, is placed on the second and third CDs. Numerous files are duplicated throughout the three CDs to take advantage of any extra space so that users copying files from CD need not swap CDs as often as is the case with the original DMA publication.
