Manifold System Release 7.00 Projections

Manifold System Release 7.00 includes a vast number of projections.  Many of the projections listed below, such as State Plane Coordinate System, have dozens or hundreds of specific regional projections.  Because projections can be further amended by setting parameters in the Projections dialogs (choosing different datums / ellipsoids, or altering projection parameters) there are thousands of main variations and effectively unlimited minor variations.  Manifold will automatically match projections when exchanging data with Oracle Spatial.

Projection availability is subject to change without notice, with frequent addition of new projections. Please contact sales@manifold.net if a particular projection is absolutely required for your work.  Please send requests for projections to sales@manifold.net  - All projections are fair game!

National Grids are prearranged projections used in specific countries either in modern times or in historical maps.  Many countries do not use national grids but instead employ standard projections.

Default Projections

Manifold keeps projections organized in a handy projections dialog that hides most projections in a folder-style tree diagram until they are needed. If the tree diagram were fully expanded we could get the following list:

Datums, Ellipsoids and System Presets

Manifold has such a long list of datums and ellipsoids that it is impractical to list them all in this web page.  Manifold includes all datums and ellipsoids know to US Government and US Military agencies, a very, very long list.

NADCON and NTv2 Transformations

Manifold uses high accuracy coordinate transformation mathematics when re-projecting data from one coordinate system to another. In certain parts of the world, custom transformation formulae are routinely used (and, at times mandated by law for certain uses) to convert datums during re-projection. If the Use custom datum transformations option is checked in the Tools - Options - Miscellaneous pane (checked by default) Manifold will use such custom datum transformations when available.

Currently, NADCON formulae are used to convert between NAD27 and NAD83 in North America and NTv2 formulae are used to convert Canadian, Australian and New Zealand datums supported by NTv2.  Custom grids may be specified for NTv2 usage anywhere in the world outside the default areas specified above.

The Best Buy in GIS !

Where else could you find such a fabulous array of all the world's projections, datums and ellipsoids?  Manifold delivers the finest projection mathematics in full double-precision floating point accuracy: that means Manifold mathematics are accurate to 1/250-millionth of a meter all the time!   Manifold uses rarely-implemented high-precision projection formulae to give the very highest accuracy known, the same as used by USGS and military users when high precision is required.   The high precision formulae are a challenge to implement and are often substituted in lesser applications with lower precision, simpler formulae.  With Manifold, you get the best all the time.
